About Kathleen

Kathleen is a career Early Childhood Education specialist.  A native of Bountiful,
Utah, she taught in a family-owned, Montessori-oriented preschool for four years
while attending college.  She spent summers as an educational staff member in a
program in New York for children with emotional and behavioral handicaps.  She
graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters Degree in Special Education
and then spent five years teaching in a specialized program for behaviorally
handicapped children in the Granite School District.  Kathleen created that
department’s Kindergarten program and was the acknowledged authority on
motivating and teaching children in that age group.  In 1983 she took a
sabbatical to raise her children and founded The Newcastle School the next year.  

In the early 90’s she discovered Love & Logic as she was working through
common behavioral issues with her own children…. And it worked!  She later
became a Certified Love & Logic Facilitator and over the years has taught
thousands of parents and teachers to use the Love & Logic techniques.  

Kathleen is a frequent community speaker on Love & Logic as well as other
aspects of Early Childhood Education.

In it’s third decade, The Newcastle School has become a working laboratory for
Love & Logic methodology.

Kathleen is the mother of four grown children who are now raising Kathleen’s
seven young grandchildren using Love & Logic principles.
About The Newcastle School



The Newcastle School is an academic preschool for
children ages 3-5 in Draper, Utah.  Now in its third
decade, the school is regarded as one of Utah's
finest preschools.  It has been named Best in State
Utah several times over the years.  Newcastle is
respected for its age appropriate Pre-K academic
curriculum and its overlying whole child approach to
Early Childhood Education.  Newcastle teachers are
trained in Teaching with Love and Logic child
behavior management.
